Full Description
(TR 36225100). An Early Belgic pit, Mill Hill, Deal. A Belgic rubbish pit was exposed in April 1947 while a trench was cut in chalk to connect up the drainage of a new bungalow. The pit was at the top of Mill Hill on its northern side and at its junction with St. Richard's Road. The pit measured 5 ft 7 in x 4 ft 2 in in plan and was 5 ft 6 in deep. Much animal bone was recovered along with fragments of a human skull. Sherds of wheel-turned heavy flat bottomed pots with rough combing on the upper part were also found. There were a few fragments of finer sherds. This is one of several Iron Age sites in the area (see also TR 35 SE 51 and 52). The presentlocation of the finds is not stated. (1)
