Summary

Rectangular enclosure of probable Iron Age date based on excavation in the 1970's. There is also a curvilinear trackway and a possible ring ditch in this area.

Full Description

TR 37296954. Cropmarks (rectangular enclosure). (1) These cropmarks fall in ploughed fields on the summit and south side of a downland ridge. Nothing was visible. (2) At TR 37306958 a cropmark of a rectangular enclosure can be seen [equivalent to above], its east side convex to fit the curve of a track, which runs from TR 37256947 to TR 37376974. Traces of featuresperpendicular to the track at its north end. Small ring ditch at TR 37326968. (3,4) TR 37306957 Partially excavated 1975 and 1977. West and south ditches of enclosure. Sub rectangular shaped in plan. Includes a pitcomplex and other ditches. Probably dates to the Iron Age. Slightly east of this enclosure is a sub rectanular ditched enclosure at TR 37346958, partially excavated in 1976. Probably Iron Age. (5) Excavations at Millmead Road from 1975-77. (6)
