Full Description
TR 377655 (sited to nearest 50m) Anglo Saxon burials. Site no. 165. (1) [This site may be a duplication of TR 36 NE 32] 'Termed Ramsgate III by Meaney'. ante 1939. The material from four Anglo-Saxon burials 'from Ramsgate'was given to Herne Bay Museum. Associated with the burial of a womanaged c35 was a small black accessory vessel, the lower part coated with soot, now reconstructed, with a man aged 35-40 were 4 sherds of another. The other 2 skeletons were of infants, aged 6-7 months, probably twins, sex not determined. Also found with the group was a piece of iron 5.5 inches long by 0.125 inches wide. (2) A single burial in a form fitted grave with flint boulders under and round the head was reported as being found when slit-trenches were being dug in 1939. Only this one burial was reported in the local newspaper, but was it one of the four burials with grave goods mentioned in Meaney? (3)
