Full Description
A possible barrow cemetery of 9 barrows. The 1st Ed OS map shows 9 circular and sub-circular tree plantations, relating to nearby Oxney Court. These may preserve the position of large barrows. The presence of smaller ring ditches to the south and east hints that this might be the case.
See 1st-4th Ed OS maps and 2007 Google Earth image.
See also TR 34 NE 299 and TR 34 NE 296.
Several areas of cropmarks indicated enclosures, pits and connecting ditches, one or two which seem to be overcut may be remnants of Ring ditches
The 1790s OS drawings show a field system here. The corners of some of the fields correspond to some of the barrows. Is the field system utilising existing features in the landscape to demarkate the fields, or are they later features that were created when the field system went out of use? (1-4)
