Full Description

A rectilinear enclosure, visible as a cropmark in the 2003 Google Earth image. It measures 130m ESE-WNW x 65m NNE-SSW, with a division at the west end separating the last 25m. (1)

An enclosure forming part of a settlement of Medieval date was visible as a cropmark in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 14-AUG-2003. The large rectilinear enclosure measures about 131m by 71.5m on plan. It has at least two internal sub-divisions at its west and east ends. The western sub-division contains a macula and a small rectangular pit measuring about 7.3m by 3.1m on plan that may respresent the position of a building with a sub-floor cut into the chalk bedrock. A more sinuous ditch extends from the north-west corner of the enclosure in a south-westerly direction for about 52.2m. The enclosure is positioned on the north side of a trackway that is now a public footpath. These features were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024.
