Full Description

An archaeological excavation was carried out in 2009 following earlier evaluation in 2006.

The excavation recorded a number of structures that relate to the manor house
complex that occupied the site from at least the 16th century to its demolition in the
1950’s.

Two ditches, at Former Halstead Place School, located north west of Halstead. One was observed in Trench 101 and was on a northnorth-east southsouth-west alignment, similar to the alignment of the ditches observed in an evaluation done in 2006 (2).

The edge of the feature occasionally contained small shells suggesting a possible waterlogged environment. The second ditch was fully exposed and excvated, located in Trench 103. (1)
