Archaeology South-East conducted archaeological work at The Mill-works, Brasted in 2007-2008. Targeted excavation in the southern part of the site during January 2008 followed on from geoarchaeological and archaeological evaluation across the whole site.

Ditches, found at the Millworks, Brasted. There were a number of these found on site; one was aligned on a east-west direction and could be firmly placed to the 13th to 14th century, a sherd of pottery from this date was recovered. It is thought that this ditch is a property boundary, perhaps separating the medieval properties from the water-meadows. Another of the ditches can be dated to the 14th to 15th century aligned northeast-southwest, fragments of a 14th to 15th century peg tile were found. This ditch has an unknown purpose. Three ditches could not be dated; two were on a north-south alignment which were perhaps earlier boundaries, the third one however may represent a earlier phase of milling. (1-2)
