Full Description

Remains of the curtain wall, at Knole, east of Sevenoaks. Remains of this were clearest in Trail pit 2. A wall foundation cut filled by a foundation base are apparent. The foundation is constructed of local stone, however it is tipped as though it may have been robbed during a demolition phase of a even earlier southern curtain wall, which is evident as a scar on the eastern wall of Green Court's west range. A levelling deposit lies over the demolished wall. The walls were demolished in the 17th century and replaced with Orangery. (1)
