An archaeological evaluation was carried out at land to rear of 51 High Street, Sevenoaks in 2009. It consisted of 3 trenches totalling 40.80m in length. The aim was to assess the significance of the potential archaeology within the site.

Five ditches were observed in both Trenches 1 and 2. The first in Trench 1 ran across the centre of the trench on an east-west alignment, no datable material was found in it. The second ditch in Trench 1 ran on a north-south alignment, and roughly perpendicular of the first ditch. Nine sherds of pottery, a fragment of Post-Medieval roofing tile and brick and an oyster shell were found within the deposit of this ditch.The pottery was of late 18th century or later date, two were early 18th century in date though. The remaining three ditches were in Trench 2. The first ran east-west, containing 15 fragments of Post-Medieval roofing tile, Post-Medieval brick and two sherds of pottery from the 18th - 19th century. The purpose may have been as a boundary marker or drainage. A second ditch ran north north east-south south west and it produced 12 fragments of Post-Medieval roofing tile. It is suggested the second and third ditches in Trench 2 served as boundary markers. (1)
