Summary

Cropmarks of enclosures in ploughed fields on the summit and south side of a downland ridge. Excavations in 1976 indicated this was late Iron Age or early Roman in date. Four Bronze Age barrows and an Iron Age enclosure [see TR 36 NE 141] were excavated at Millmead Road from 1975-1977.

Full Description

TR 37426975. Cropmarks (group of small contiguous irregular shaped enclosures). (1) These cropmarks fall in ploughed fields on the summit and south side of a downland ridge. Nothing was visible. (2) TR 37436971. A large ditched enclosure, heart shaped in plan was partially excavated in 1976. It has a narrow entrance to the south west and overlies an earlier 'hook shaped' enclosure and other ditchesetc. Late Iron Age to Roman in date. (3) TR 375699 (area centred). Four Bronze Age barrows and an Iron Age enclosure [TR 36 NE 141] were excavated at Millmead Road from 1975- 1977. (4,5,6)
