Full Description

In 2006 and 2009 the Kent Archaeological Field School carried out excavations at Bax Farm. Within and around the Roman octagonal bath house there were a number of Anglo-Saxon features. The small furnace room on the east side of the building had an oven or kiln built into the rubble within the room. Pottery recovered dated to the period AD c.450-650.

A second kiln was built within the bath-house proper, in the northeast room of the octagon. The kiln was evidently repeatedly used and was constructed of recycled Roman material.

A large pit had been dug cutting the northern end of the large square room extending from the northern side of the bath house. It contained pottery dating from AD450-650. (1)
