In 1994 a watching brief was done on the pipeline for the Herne Bay Water Treatment. A pit was found on Site 1, which is just north of Thanet Way at Hawthorn Corner. The pit appeared to be an isolated frgament of a settlement, probably Late Bronze Age in date. (1)

In 1995 a report assessing the archaeology of the Herne Bay Waste Water Treatment plan was compiled. A pit, thought to be Early Iron Age (c.600-200 BC), from the small amount of pottery it contained, is perhaps suggestive of a nearby settlement. (2)
