Full Description

TR 349692. Located to the nearest fifty metres. Cropmarks of Bronze Age barrows. Site no. 46. (1) Aerial photographs reveal 3 complete ring ditches and the remnant of another. The barrow to the west and just south of the continuation of Halfmile Ride is shown by ground level photographs. The two presumed Bronze Age round barrows to the east contain extended burials. (2)

The cropmark remains of two large (one incomplete) ring ditches and a smaller incomplete ring ditch have been noted 85m to the west of this location. It is possible that these are the barrows recorded in this record. These barrows have individually been recorded as TR 36 NW 91, MKE125753 and MKE125754. The two larger ring ditches are likely to be the remains of Bronze Age round barrows, whilst the smaller ring ditch may be an Anglo-Saxon burial mound. All three barrows lie within the area of part of an extensive Anglo-Saxon inhumation cemetery - TR 36 NW 23. Grave cuts can be seen cutting into the larger barrow ditches.(3-5)
