Full Description
In 1991 an archaeological evaluation was carried out by Canterbury Archaeological Trust at various sites along Thanet Way. Two features were found. The second was unidentified and the full extent not excavated but it may be another pit or a ditch. The fill contained 3 sherds, both broadly 9th century c.825-875 AD, none really diagnostic. 1 Post Medieval redware c.1675-1725 AD. (1)
The presence of Middle to Late Anglo-Saxon ceramic material and daub could be evidence of an occupation site nearby. This would give rise to the possibility of sunken featured buildings somewhere nearby. (1)
