Full Description

Site identified during transcription of features recorded on air photographs. (1)

A sub-rectangular ditched enclosure with a ditch (unrelated?) passing through it, north-south. The enclosure measures about 50m x 70m. Only one internal feature was found a post hole. A small quantity of prehistoric pot sherds were recovered from the ditch.(2,3)

Cropmarks of a Late Bronze Age-Early Iron sub-rectangular enclosure visible on aerial photographs: CUCAP ALA56 04-JUN-1965 and Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021 which has been mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024. A ditch cuts N-S through the eastern side of the enclosure which seems to mirror the convex shape of the eastern ditch suggesting it may be associated. This is one of a number of enclosures, pits and ditch sites scattered across these fields to the south of Hartsdown College which date from the Late Bronze Age through to Middle and Late Iron Age. The enclosure measures c.38m across and has two straight sides (the western with a possible entrance), one (eastern) convex side and two curved corners visible. A linear ditch extends NE from the NE corner of the enclosure, possibly associated with the site (4-5)
