Full Description

In 2007 the Hastings Area Archaeological Research Group carried out a resistivity survey and a small excavation targetting an area of high response from the survey. At a depth of c.0.45m a hard surface was found, made up from a mixture of sandstone pieces and iron slag. It was 0.05m thick. Roman pottery was found above, within and below this layer. The surface could be either a floor or a trackway. A Roman coin was also found and will be recorded via the PAS. (1)

In 2014 the Hastings group carried out an extensive magnetometry survey of the site and the surrounding fields. The survey discovered a number of features that may include a field system consisting of two larger enclosures and a number of related ditches. These were interpeted as being of pre-medieval date.(2)
