In 2012 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out a series of works at the proposed Otterpool Campsite. A medieval hollow way, enclosure and two structures were found. A number of pits were also found, some were initially used as cess pits and later backfilled with domestic refuse. One of the structures lay within the area of excavation and consisted of a series of linear trenches that would once have held timber ground beams. In its first phase of use the building was 8.25m wide and 13.25m long. The building was constructed over the hollow way. It was later extended east and south. It is thought to have been of agricultural use, as no north wall was found, indicating it was open on this face. Furthermore, evidence of crop processing was found in the area. It was probably demolished in the medieval period and the hollow way came back into use, remaining in use until the 18th century, a field boundary on this alignment appearing on the 1st edition OS map of the area.
