Full Description
In 2012 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out an evaluation on land at 22 The Bayle, Folkestone. A massive ditch was encountered, possibly relating to the castle that stood in the area (see TR 23 NW 53). The ditch had been partly backfilled with bank material and included residual material of late Roman and Mid-Saxon date. The ditch was later re-cut but it is unclear when this occurred. It remained open for a considerable length of time, eventually silting up. (1)
