Full Description

Site identified during transcription of features recorded on air photographs. (1)

Also visible on the 1990 aerial photos. Appears to be a long thin rectangular enclosure with a trackway exiting to the south, forming a T-shape. There are two pits to the east of the enclosure.

A rectangular enclosure possibly of Neolithic date is visible as a cropmark on Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 25-MAY-2012. The cropmarks indicate the eastern half of a long rectangular ditched enclosure with slightly irregular sides and two (eastern) slightly rounded corners. It is aligned E-W with two gaps or interruptions in the southern side. It measures c.19.5m across and at least 84m long. The western end and at least half of the northern ditch of the enclosure are lost beneath the houses of Briar Close. This area was stripped and excavated prior to the development and the equivalent length of the northern ditch uncovered, but no western end. The excavation dated the ditch to the Neolithic and further ditches to the NW to the Early Iron Age. The excavtion details are recorded in TR 36 NW 1383.(2)
