Full Description

In 2002 the Trust for Thanet Archaeology carried out an excavation at the former Bon Secours Nursing Home site on London Road, Ramsgate. In one of the excavation areas, a Middle to Late Bronze Age funerary site was found. This consisted of a flint filled ring gully with a group of five associated pits containing truncated ceramic vessels. All but one of the vessels were inverted and contained small quantities of cremated human bone. The ring gully was c.4m in diameter and 20 sherds from one small Deverel-Rimbury type bowl of Late Bronze Age date were found at the base of the deposit that filled the gully. The upper surface of the fill of the gully had a densely packed flint nodule layer. This may have been a flint mound that was eroded and truncated by later activity on the site. A curvilinear ditch was also found. (1)
