In 2004 the Trust for Thanet Archaeology carried out an evaluation. A pit, or possibly a well (it was not bottomed during the evaluation), containing finds of an Early to Mid Saxon date. Finds included a fresh sherd of pottery, marine shells and a section of bone comb. The upper and lower deposits in the pit were not significantly distinct and the base showed no signs of significant compation. Therefore it is likely that the early artefacts were redeposited in the feature when it was backfilled. It can only be suggested that the backfill may have incorporated nearby soils and that the artefacts are a very limited indication of an early Anglo Saxon presence near the site. (1-2)
