Summary

Two ring ditch cropmark features have been identified in fields to the north east of Acol. Aerial photographs taken in the mid 1970's showed two ring ditch features in close proximity to each other close to the Margate Hill road. These features have been tentativley identified as barrows although their date is unknown.

Full Description

Two ring ditches at TR 31246767 and TR 31406768. Possibly barrows? (1,2)

Cropmarks of a ring ditch and adjacent pit have been mapped from aerial photographs. The ring ditch is incomplete, has a diameter of 18m and is visible on NMR 962/73 09-JUL-1976 . The pit is visible on and EARTH.GOOGLE.COM JUL-2013. ACCESSED 22-APR-2024. These features were mapped as part of the Historic England Thanet Landscape Mapping Project 2024. They had previously been mapped as a ring ditch and adjacent ring ditch by the RCHME Kent NMP survey. (3-4)
