Full Description

In 2006 the Trust for Thanet Archaeology carried out an evaluation. A number of undated post holes were found. Amongst these two groups were observed, forming alignments, also possibly in alignment with each other. A number of pieces of Iron Age pottery were found in a post hole, possibly suggesting a date for the activity. (1)

In 2006 Archaeology South-East carried out an excavation. In total four rectangular four-post structures and one possible five-post structure were identified. These were found to the east, north and south of the barrows on the site. Fragments of Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age pottery were found in the fills of a number of the post holes. Three linear alignments of post holes were also identified. These probably relate to fence lines. Again sherds of Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age pottery were found in the fills. Numerous other post holes were found, some of which could form curvilinear arrangements and others appeared to be in pairs. Late Iron Age pottery was found in some post holes. (2)
