Date/Year | 2006 |
Abstract/Summary
Thirteen evaluation trenches were excavated revealing the full circuit of a deep, steep-sided ring ditch cut into natural chalk. Some isolated post holes and two post hole alignments were revealed. The ring ditch had probably been disturbed by later quarrying and a conglomeration of individual pit cuts formed a broad and irregular feature whose limits were not fully established. Distinct breaks of slope in the natural chalk suggested the presence of agricultural lynchets, possibly relict field terraces of unknown date.
