Full Description
In 2007 Oxford Archaeology carried out a strip, map and sample excavation. A large rectangular pit contained a partially butchered cow, a pregnant sow and a dog. The dog and the sow had had their legs tied before being placed in the pit. The dog also may have had its neck broken. Sherds of 13th century pottery were found within the fill. It has been suggested that this deposit could be related to medieval witchcraft or pagan ritual activity. (1)
