Full Description
A rectangular enclosure is visible as a cropmark in Google Earth image from May 2007, to the east of St. Nicholas at Wade. The enclosure measures 33 metres by 35 metres, and consists of one single line in a rectangular shape.(1)
Cropmarks of a rectilinear enclosure visible on Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 21-APR-2007 and Google Earth image from May 2007 aerial photographs. The enclosure is defined by a single ditch with three fragmented straight sides and two corners visible. The western side appears to curve outwards. There are traces of further spurs of ditch extending northwards from the NW corner and south-east from the SE corner. There are cropmarks of two small and one larger pit to te north which may be associated with the enclosure which is possibly a settlement enclosure of Iron Age, Roman or medieval date. The slight earthwork traces of a probably post medieval field boundary bank lies over the top of the enclosure. This site was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet Landscape mapping project in 2024 (2-3).
