Full Description

In 1999 Museum of London Archaeology Service carried out an excavation at Temple East of Springhead as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link works. Middle and Late Bronze Age features were found, similar to earlier pits along the spring line (TQ 67 SW 428), perhaps water collection pits. Pits were found cutting a colluvial layer, one of which contained Plain Ware pottery (c.1100-900 BC), parts of two cups, a jar and a burnished bowl. The colluvium was probably the result of tree clearance along the valley slopes in the Bronze Age. (1)
