The following text is from the original listed building designation:
TQ 86 SW STOCKBURY SOUTH STREET ROAD (west side)
2/180 The Old Forge
GV II
House. C15, and C16. Timber framed with painted brick infilling and plain tile roof. C15 two-bay open hall with single storeyed end to right. One bay of hall possibly converted to smoke bay slightly later. C16 cross-wing to left projecting to front of house. 2 storeys, with widely-spaced studding. Arch braces to wing. Wing jettied to street, jetty and front bay restored in C20. Roof hipped at right end. Wing gabled to street, hipped to rear. Brick ridge stack towards right end. Irregular fenestration of 3-light leaded casements. Door beneath stack with plain-tiled canopy over. Later lean-to to right, with flint ground floor. C20 rear extension to wing. Interior: has exposed beams posts and joists. Sans-purlin roof to C15 part.
