Full Description

Evaluation trenching on site of former Faversham gas works established the earlier position of the Creek bank some 60m S of the present one and marked by large quantities of refuse dating from the 12th to 17th centuries. CAT conducted a monitoring survey following demolition of Faversham Gasworks and prior to redevelopment. Despite being in close proximity to a centre of historic importance, no archaeologically important remains were uncovered, however ceramic fragments representing domestic rubbish from virtually all periods c1150 - c1675 were identified.
