Full Description
In 2001 Archaeology South-East carried out an excavation. A small farmstead, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, was found on the east side of the site. The farmstead was initially defined by two ditches forming an inner enclosure with post holes representing a multi-phase gateway structure. Further ditches were dug in the 13th to 14th century, defining other enclosures and a possible field or yard to the south. Activity on the site seems to have ended in the early/mid 15th century.
Features dating to this period of activity were found to the north during later works. A number of ditches and pits were found, probably representing associated activity on the edge of the settlement site. (1)
