Full Description
In 2009 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out a desk based assessment. Yaldham first appears in written records in 1177. The name is thought to relate to a pre-conquest settlement in the area. The manor and a high status settlement probably existed by 1220. The site may well have been moated. (1)
In 2012 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out an evaluation. Evidence of pre-Norman Conquest and early medieval occupation was found. This consisted of cut features and possible spreads of material from earthworks in the area, probably a moat. Pottery found in the evaluation trenches was thought to be of 12th-13th century date. (2)
