Full Description
Second World War public surface air raid shelters at Fairfield, Dartford, Kent. Three shelters were built sometime in 1940. Three structures are shown at Fairfield on a 1950s OS map. The shelters were demolished at an unknown date. No other details are known. The site is now occupied by Fairfield Pool. (1)
Desk based assessment of Leisure Centre site. A 1944 aerial photo shows six shelters, surrounding by small vegetable? plots. A prefabricated housing development replaced the shelters and garden plots, completed by October 1946. The prefab housing was demolished in 1974 to make way for the Leisure Centre. (2).
