Full Description

In 1997/8 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out an evaluation and a watching brief on groundworks. There was a subsequent strip, map and sample excavation in the first half of 1998. The work was subsequently taken over by the Hertfordshire Archaeological Trust from late 1998 until early 1999. The final phase of work on the site was conducted by the Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit in 1999.

Two ditches were found, possibly forming a medieval enclosure, perhaps connected with nearby salt-making sites. A small pit was the only other feature dated to this phase of activity. (1-2)
