Full Description
In 2011 the Trust for Thanet Archaeology carried out an evaluation prior to the refurbishment of a nursing home. Two trial trenches were excavated. Two post hole alignments, a ditch and two gullies were found. No datable material was recovered but the features were assumed to be of Iron Age date. In 2013 a watching brief was carried out on the construction of the access road and car-park. Four additional postholes and a linear ditch were observed, none of which were dateable. A curvilinear ditch was also found which contained three sherds of pottery, two of which could be dated to the middle neolithic. The neolithic ditch was thought to be unrelated to the later probable iron age ditches. (1, 2)
