Full Description
In 2000/1 the Oxford Archaeological Unit carried out a targeted watching brief (a strip, map and sample excavation) ahead of CTRL works. Pits and post holes were found concentrated in an area 50m by 50m. Sherds of Deverel-Rimbury pottery dated the earliest features to the Middle Bronze Age. Other features found included an oven or hearth base, a pit with an in situ pottery vessel and post holes relating to a structure. Five post holes formed an arc, possibly relating to a post-built roundhouse or a semi-circular structure. Two further possible post-built structures were identified in the area. Charred cereal remains from one pit included emmer, spelt, wheat, barley and oats. (1-2)
