In 1998 the Museum of London Archaeology Service carried out an evaluation. Ditches were found of a Late Iron Age/early Roman field system. (1-2)

In 2000/1 the Oxford Archaeological Unit carried out a targeted watching brief (a strip, map and sample excavation) ahead of CTRL works. A number of ditches forming a probable Late Iron Age/early Roman field system and trackway. Two pits were also found and dated to this phase of activity. This all probably post dates the adjacent metalworking site, though this is based on one ditch's stratigraphic relationship with the enclosures. The ditches could have continued in use into the Roman period. (3-4)
