Monument record TQ 77 SE 225 - The cropmarks of a series of ditches of uncertain date can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2011.
Summary
The cropmarks of a series of ditches of uncertain date can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2011. These cropmarks are situated near the coast to the south east of Hoo St. Werburgh. The majority of the cropmarks are aligned northwest-southeast and are approximately parallel to each other. Other cropmarks are connected to and run at right angles to these. Although on the same alignment, one cropmark differs in that it is wider and more irregular in outline. There is a break in this linear and on the western side of this are the cropmarks of two pairs of pits. Not all the cropmarks are well defined and not all are easy to differentiate from geological cropmarks also visible. Other cropmarks relate to field boundaries and other features depicted by the Ordnance Survey and have not been mapped. These features were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
