Monument record TR 36 NW 539 - Cropmark of rectilinear enclosures, north of Cleve Court Farm near Acol

A rectilinear enclosure is visible as a cropmark in a Google Earth image of 2013. It is 34m x 27m across with some interruption. (1)

Enclosures and pits forming part of a settlement of Medieval date were visible as cropmarks in NMR 4137/57 18-JUL-1988. The enclosures appear to front onto what remains a public footpath. Three small pits in the environs may be contemporary features. These features were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (2)

The cropmarks were also identified at TR 3123 6673 on aerial photographs taken in 2015 as part of the Historic England Reconnaissance Recording programme, during which they were recorded as part of a probable Iron Age or Roman small incomplete rectangular settlement enclosure. The enclosure was seen to measure c. 35m across with straight sitdes and a single angular corner visble.(3)
