Carter House, no. 9 South Street, on the corner with the southern end of Middle Street, has a large rectangular plaque stating that Elizabeth Carter. Poet, classicist, writer, translator & member of the ‘Bluestocking Circle’ lived ther from 1762 to her death in 1806.
