Full Description

In the north west corner of the North West Transept a fine vice survives as well as the external junction between the transept and north wall of the nave of Lanfranc's Cathedral built mostly between 1071 and 1077, and certainly completed before 1089.

The N. W Transept remained largely untouched perhaps due to to the popularity of the site of Becket's Martyrdom for Pilgrim's. However, between 1448 and 1455 a new Lady Chapel was constructed in place of the upper and lower Norman chapels (one being Lanfranc's Lady Chapel) to the east of the Martyrdom Transept and at this time the north-east section of Lanfranc's N. W. Transept was demolished to make way for the new chapel.
