Full Description
Excavations by Canterbury Archaeological Trust between 1978 and 1979 in Linacre House Garden revealed evidence for a long range of Chambers built onto the Priory's Precinct 12th century wall.
A long rectangular shaped range is suggested, about 130 feet long N-S by about 16 feet wide, probably built over two storeys, running north from Meister Omers Hall. Documentary evidence suggests that there was a great chamber to the northern end of the range; a cellar with chamber above and a small chapel over an undercroft are known towards the south end. The structure exact date of construction is uncertain, but a date during the later 15th century seems most probable. A covered Pentice walk adjoined the west face of the chambers which joined a similar arrangement along the northern side of the southern range of chambers.
After the Dissolution the chambers were allocated to various Prebends. During the mid-seventeenth century the buildings were demolished.
