Summary

During excavations associated with the East Kent Access Route (2009-2011) in Zone 10a a Saxon sunken-featured building was excavated. Several nearby features also contained Saxon pottery in their fills.

Full Description

During excavations associated with the East Kent Access Route (2009-2011), in Zone 10a, a 3m x 3m Saxon sunken-featured building was excavated. The building contained pottery of early - middle Saxon date and also iron age and Roman material. Other finds included a glass bead, two iron knives and large amounts of animal and fish bone and oyster shell. Several nearby features also contained Saxon pottery in their fills.(1)
