Monument record TR 15 NW 1741 - Prehistoric Pit (29-30 Watling Street)
Summary
In April 1950 three cellars fronting onto Watling Street, east of its junction with St Margaret's Street and west of Rose Lane were excavated. The excavation was coded CXVI A, B and C. Cellar A lay on the south side of the street, whilst cellars B and C lay on the north. The only trench on the south side revealing prehistoric features was Trench II. This was very disturbed by modern features, the only archaeological features were a post-hole adjoining a Belgic pit, and a second pit containing Roman sherds.
