Summary

In the spring and summer of 1950 several trenches were dug east of Slatters hotel building and also on the site of 3-4 Marlowe Avenue. The excavations were undertaken by the Canterbury Excavation Committee. The trenches were coded CXVI E II, CXVII E I, EIII-VII.

Full Description

In the spring and summer of 1950 several trenches were dug east of Slatters hotel building and also on the site of 3-4 Marlowe Avenue. The excavations were undertaken by the Canterbury Excavation Committee. The trenches were coded CXVI E II, CXVII E I, EIII-VII.

Trench E I was located to the south east of the rest of the trenches, on the site of 3-4 Marlow Arcade whilst the rest of the trenches were east of the Slatters Hotel building.

CXVII Trench E V revealed a Belgic pit containing much pre-Claudian pottery.
