Full Description

Between 1950-1 Frank Jenkins and John Boyle excavated on the site of 10-11 Castle Street and revealed the end of a large Iron Age ditch, with palisade, containing pottery dating to c. 300BC - AD43. A fragment of Roman flint masonry was also seen. (1-4)


A desk-based assessment of a nearby site in 2013 suggested that pottery recovered from the site was dated to between 850/750-600 BC, with the latest material dating from around 300 BC. (5)
