Full Description
To the south-east of the street, three shallow pits were located. Pits context number 412, 414 and 417. Surrounding Structure 'S30'.
Pits 412 and 417 were sealed by 'dark earth', whilst pit 414 had been truncated by a later pit but is suggested as being contemporary since it contained 6th century pottery.
Pit 412 was 15cm deep with a fill of grey silty clayey loam and a few oyster shells
Pit 414 was 55cm deep, with a primary fill of yellow-brown corse sandfy loam and contained many small flints and a few oyster shells, and a secondary fill of charcoal flecked blak clay-loam with a few small flint fragments. The pit was only art excavated since it continued under the eastern section.
Pit 417 was cut to a depth of 20 cm. And contained a fill of black clay-loam, many charcoal flecks and small flint fragments.
Area of pits not given in hectares as they are too small.
Geographic location is a centre point for all pits.
