Full Description
During work on the construction of Rheim's Way in 1951-2 Frank Jenkins observed a possible Roman Ditch. This was located 45.11m from the then Victoria Avenue and was oriented in a NW axis. Further to the NW of this feature of traces of Roman remains were seen. Due to the fact that the filling was practically indistinguishable from the surrounding virgin soil only the SE side could be accurately measured. This ditch seems to have marked the boundary of the Roman occupied area for beyond it as far as the London Road not one piece of occupation debris of that period was found.
