Full Description
Between November 1978 and June 1979 The Canterbury Archaeological Trust excavated within the garden of Linacre House, Cathedral Precincts prior to the construction of a new Boarding House for the King's School. The sitecode was Lin/G79.
The earliest occupation levels dated to the Roman period. Structural remains consisted of post holes and stake holes. Layers containing quantities of slag and burnt material (such as charcoal) may indicate iron-working in the vicinity. In the post-Roman period occupation evidence for occupation was sparse until 11th century. (1)
Other features recorded at the site include shallow pits, a gully, and deposits. (2)
