Full Description

(TQ 7610 6950) SAM No. 391 [site of South Mast Pond: scheduled] (1) and additional site photographs (2-6).

An evaluation trench in the northwest corner of the pond found remains of timber pile and beam structures known from maps (1795 to 1932) as "Plank seasoning House", "The Plank House" and "Store and Mast House". They were built into and over the water and their pitched roofs can be seen on an early photo of the dockyard (1869) (7).
