Full Description
An archaeological evaluation took place in 2014 at the land of the former Prince of Wales PH in East Sutton to assess the potential of the site prior to redevelopment. The evaluation comprised of machine excavation of four trenches measuring 20m by 1.8m. A ditch believed to be of Romano-British date was observed aligned north-south. Four sherds of sandy greware pottery and one of grog-temprered ware were recoverd. 3 small fragments od ceramic building material were also recovered and one fragment of ironworking slag. A large shallow pit believed to be a Medieval rubbish pit was observed. The pit contained an assemblage of pottery along with 4 fragments of animal bone and 1 iron nail. (1)
